Mobile Edge Premium Camo Backpack close-up

By Doug Aamoth

Just got done playing with a couple of new backpacks from Mobile Edge. They’re beingMobile Edge G-Pak sold in cooperation with the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which “is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.” A generous 10% of each one sold goes to the charity itself, so let’s see what these souped-up tote bags are made of.

Boomer Esiason Foundation G-Pak
The smaller of the two bags (although by no means tiny) is called the G-Pak, named after Boomer’s son Gunnar. It’ll hold up to a 15.4? laptop and has pockets for just about everything including a digital audio player pouch with a little rubber pass-through opening for a headphone cord. Mobile Edge pitches it as “the ideal backpack for students and others requiring a sturdy notebook carrying case that’s easy on the back and easy on the eyes.”

Mobile Edge Premium Backpack in Urban Camouflage
The Premium Backpack is a bit larger than the G-Pak, holding up to a 17? laptop and featuring two main compartments, front-side buckles, detachable cell phone holder, and a bunch of other cool enhancements with names like “SafetyCell”, “Cool-Mesh”, “Duraflex”, and “1680 Denier Ballistic Nylon”.

Mobile Edge Premium Backpack CamoYou could pack for an entire weekend in this bag. It strikes a nice balance between being big yet not unwieldy. You’d be able to stow it on an airplane, as Mobile Edge says that it “fits in any overhead or under any seat” and I’d feel perfectly comfortable that my laptop was safely sandwiched in between the little bumpy-soft nubbins that line part of the bag’s interior.

Mobile Edge’s Flashy Laptop Bags

Matthew Olivolo September 7th, 2007

By Jessica C. Lee - Orange County Business Journal

Laptop Posh

Forget boring black canvas and nylon.

Mobile Edge - Cute Bug Messenger by Madie PowersAnaheim’s Mobile Edge LLC has a new line of funky, kitschy laptop computer bags for trendsetters and retro art fans.

The Anaheim company makes laptop bags, backpacks, purses, briefcases, wallets and notebook sleeves with a stylish edge. It recently worked with Chicago designer Maddie Powers Inc. to make laptop bags with 1950s pinup flair.

Its “Cute Bug” and “Dig” lines include laptop bags with vintage pinup art, bright colors, crushed velvet and a decorative pair of red dice. The bags sell for less than $100.

Mobile Edge’s other products sell for $29 to more than $200 at stores such as Circuit City, CompUSA, Fry’s Electronics, Micro Center, Amazon.com, Buy.com and E-Bags.com.

The new bags are aimed at bringing in customers, spokesman Matthew Olivolo said. Think women and fashionistas.

Mobile Edge is trying to carve a niche by catering to female shoppers, Olivolo said. It makes faux crocodile skin totes and bags that come in shades of pink.

“We’re really focused on style because we want to appeal to all shoppers, particularly women,” he said.

Mobile Edge is trying to get them into department stores as well as electronics stores, Olivolo said.

The company, which operates out of a 40,000-square-foot headquarters in Anaheim’s industrial corridor along La Palma Avenue, makes its bags in Asia and uses outside carriers to ship them to stores.

The company is private and doesn’t disclose yearly sales. It employs about 40 workers and several independent sales representatives.

Founder G. David Cartwright is no stranger to the business. He helped start Anaheim’s Targus Inc.—a bigger rival of Mobile Edge—back in the 1980s. Targus has $500 million in yearly sales and also is making more fashionable bags.

Before the end of the year, Mobile Edge plans to redesign its Web site with added features such as video casts that help advertise products, Olivolo said.

Laptop Travel Tips

Jason Gerdon September 6th, 2007

Travel TipsWhen traveling with your laptop there are a few important things to keep in mind. One important element is security. Far too often people have their laptops stolen at airports by setting their laptop down for a minute. I’ve actually even seen PDAs disappear when they are sent through airport screening check points. Keep a close watch when sending your laptop through airport security checkpoints.

A durable laptop bag is fundamental when traveling with your laptop. Make sure it has a dedicated computer section with plenty of padding. Mobile Edge has many laptop bags that offer superior protection for your laptop, and many don’t even look like laptop bags at all. Most importantly, keep your bag with you at all times to ensure it doesn’t mysteriously walk away without you noticing.

Here are a few useful tips on traveling with your laptop from The Traveler’s Journal.

Stylish Laptop bags made for women - Style Cartel

Matthew Olivolo September 5th, 2007

By Lotte Freckles of Style Cartel

We live in a mobile world, and for many busy women the laptop is a constant companion. But you don’t want to look like you’re lugging around, well, luggage. Some prefer to not look like they’re carrying a laptop at all.

There are several styles of laptop bags for women. Shoulder bags, laptop totes, briefcases, and laptop purses, just to name a few. We’ve found some of the choicest, most useful laptop cases and sleeves. Whether you’re a commuter, a world traveler, or just want something trendy to tote your laptop around in, we have the bag for you.

A stylish laptop case is just as important as a trendy handbag. But it should also be useful. Who needs a cute bag that’s annoying or painful to carry and doesn’t fit all of your stuff besides? These bags are functional and fashionable.

Mobile Edge makes some of the best laptop cases on the market. They teamed up with Women in Technology International to create a line of chic bags, totes, and briefcases for laptops. Each bag combines security features and usability with chic style that will appeal to business women at any stage of their career. Our favorites include The Milano handbag, the Ultra Laptop Tote, and the gorgeous briefcase in leather or faux croc.

Customer Review of the Express Backpack

Jason Gerdon September 4th, 2007

By: Jesse C.

Design:

The Express Backpack Looks Great, From The Outside You Cant Even Tell Its A Laptop Bag. It’s Made Of Tough Material And My Laptop Feels Safe Inside Of It. The Bag Comes In 5 Colores, White, Red, Yellow, Urban Camo, And Silver. I Got The Red One. Jesse’s Express Backpack

On The Front There Is A Dedicated Media Pocket For An Mp3 Player Or CD Player With A Headphone Pass-Through So You Can Keep Your Player Safe In Your Bag But Still Be Listening. On The Side There Jesse’s Express BackpackIs A Hidden Drink Compartment You Open With A Zipper It Doesn’t Seem To Close When Theres A Drink In There So I Guess You Just Leave It Open. The Back Has Ventilated Back Panels Which Keep Your Back Nice And Dry, There Is Also A Cell Phone Pouch On The Shoulder Strap.Jesse’s Express Backpack

The Inside Of The Bag Is Very Roomy, I Fit My HP DV2500T 14.1 Inch Screen, An Overly Stuffed 3 Inch Binder And There Was Still Room For Another Textbook Or Binder To Fin Comfortably. There Are Many Compartments For Everything, Mouse, Power supply,Cords, Dongles, Memory Sticks And Plenty More.

This Bag Seems Great For Students I’m Going Into College And Needed A Backpack I Could Take My Laptop With Me And Carry Some Books, This Bag Fits Everything Great, And It Looks Real Sleek. I Went To Bestbuy And Was Looking At All The Other Laptop Bags They Had And They All Seemed Huge Like I Was Taking My Laptop On A Mountain Trip Through The Woods. The Mobile Edge Express Bag Doesn’t Look Like That At All It Looks Like A Regular School Bag.

Pros:
*Great Padding
*Cheap
*Good Looking
*Lifetime Warranty

Cons:
*May Not Carry Enough For Some People
*I Read Another Review Saying It Wasn’t Water Proof (I’m Not Testing It lol)

Conclusion:
This Bag Is Great For School Kids Who Need A Stylish Looking Bag To Get There Laptop And Books From Their Car To Class. If Your Looking For A Bag To Take Out While You Hike Or Something Besides School Where You May Want To Carry A Jacket Or A Big Lunch This Bag May Not Be Right For You, But For Those Looking To Carrying Books And A Laptop This Bag Is Great
