Mobile Edge on CBS Early Show - Pink for a Week

Matthew Olivolo October 9th, 2007

(CBS) October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time for us to celebrate our friends and family who are breast cancer survivors and to remember and mourn those no longer with us. It’s a time to renew our energy to fight this cruel disease and to focus our efforts to support the researchers and physicians who are working for a cure.

There are people however, for whom awareness of breast cancer is a 12-month-long commitment. These are the men and women who help raise money for research, help patients who are fighting the disease and help educate women young and old about early detection and treatment.

Mobile Edge Komen laptop bags on CBS Early Show For the past four years, The Early Show has done a special series, Pink for a Week, that puts the spotlight on the organizations and the individuals who wage this battle on a daily basis. We also use Pink for a Week as an opportunity to thank the many companies, large and small, that donate money and create pink-themed products that benefit the charities.

Every day for six days, we’re going to showcase a charity, as well as display some of the great pink products.

Tuesday: The mission of Susan G. Komen For The Cure is to “end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.” The group, which sponsors activities and sells “pink” products, makes more than $58 million a year, money that is used to fund research and outreach programs for patients.

This year, they’ve taken one of their lovely tote bags and filled it to the brim with “pink” gift items and have distributed them to our Early Show guests in the plaza.

From cell phones to notebook computers to portable media players, if there is one thing they all have in common it is they have a screen. The function of the screen is an important one; they let us see what is going on. With that said, keeping the screen clean is not always easy for they have an insatiable tendency to attract dust, finger prints, and/or smudges. Safely cleaning a screen is easy enough assuming you have a safe cleaning solution on hand which, if you are like most people, is not often. Do you carry a cleaning cloth in your pocket with your cell phone or iPod all the time?

Mobile Edge has put together a line of Alienware branded notebook cases for those of you who can’t get enough of Alienware. This review focuses on the Alienware Odyssey Messenger Bag, but the product line also includes a backpack and a briefcase with the signature Alienware logo prominently displayed.  The Odyssey may have the Alienware logo but can it live up to the quality that this brand name has established?

The Odyssey Specifications

Dimensions: 18” x 16” x 6”
Compartment Dimensions: 15.5” x 12” x 2.25”
Weight: 3.4 lbs.
Made with ballistic nylon
Ergonomic adjustable shoulder strap
The SafetyCell computer protection compartment
Dedicated media pocket w/ headphone port
Lifetime warranty

Design and Aesthetics

The Alienware logo is the first thing you notice when looking at the Odyssey.  It’s in the middle of the dedicated media pocket and it’s pretty distinctive.

The bag itself is a mixture of black and dark grey mesh and ballistic nylon.  The above mentioned media pocket is on the front flap and there are two adjustable buckles to keep flap secured.  On both sides of the bag there are two zippered pockets with Alienware stitched on them.  These pockets would be perfect for keeping items handy like pens, pencils, money, cell phones, etc.

Under the flap there is a medium sized zippered pocket with a key fob, pen holder, and an elastic mesh pocket.  Keep things you’d like to keep secure in here.  It’s large enough for cell phones, wallets, keys, sunglasses, or small office supplies.

The Slim-Line PC Media Remote is one of the newest of a great line of accessories offered by Mobile Edge. It works with patented radio frequency technology, making it much more user friendly compared to traditional remotes using line-of-sight technology. The RF technology in the PC Media Remote allows the user to run their PC’s music or movie software (WinDVD, Windows Media Player, Mac DVD Player and iTunes for Windows) from up to 100 feet away. Another great feature of this remote is that it is designed to be stored in your computer’s PC card slot.
