In an age when our entire lives are stored on our laptops and other mobile devices, Mobile Edge is proud to offer the bag that keeps prying hands at bay: The SecurePack. Or, as the guys at GearCrave might call it, the “Why didn’t someone think of this before” bag.
GearCrave just wrapped up taking a closer look at the SecurePack and had some great things to say about the performance of the bag. They also pointed out that the aerodynamic design of the SecurePack makes it a great backpack for both bike and motorcycle riders.

What a year 2007 has been for us here at Mobile Edge. We’ve had some great new additions, this blog for starters. It has been awesome to be able to provide this resource to our customers. Mobile Edge has also released some great new products. Our Maddie Powers collection brought new style to the way women carry their laptop computers. We proved that laptop cases no longer need to be black and boring.
This year we also introduced the 2.0 version of our popular V-Load cases. The V-Load 2.0 includes the upgraded Bungee Comfort System to maximize comfort. We also introduced the MicroClear and I.D. Sentry Wallets to our accessories collection.
Keep an eye on Mobile Edge in 2008. We have some great new bags for men and women coming out. And as promised, the new MobileEdge.com will be up and running to create a better online experience for our customers.
This is a snap-shot of where Mobile Edge has been in 2007 and where we are going in 2008.

Were it not for it’s slightly large size (the better to accommodate your 15.4-inch laptop), we’d think the $90 Mobile Edge CuteBug Messenger was another trendy everyday bag. But behind its vinyl front flap–like the CuteBug Sheba we reviewed earlier this year, decorated with a striking image taken from a mid-century pulp magazine–you’ll find a padded laptop compartment and a handful of
helpful organizer pockets. Inside, a padded laptop compartment provides a good level of protection for your machine, and a handful of organizer pockets keep pens and other items contained. And while the CuteBug Sheba was too small to carry much more than an ultraportable laptop, the Messenger version offers enough space for a mainstream laptop and several accessories.
The vintage magazine cover art on the flap of the CuteBug Messenger provides a lot of its appeal. Against a light-green backdrop, we see a heavily made-up brunette who’s looking off to the side. The cover line next to her reads, “Bright promises”; above her, on the left side of the flap (the cover is reproduced sideways), you see the magazine’s title in red: All-Story Love. The overall effect is retro and feminine, if not quite as girly as the pinkfest found on the CuteBug Sheba. The bag’s back panel is made of dark purple velvet, which opens (via a Velcro tab) onto a slender pocket for reading material or folded papers. The rest of the bag is made of typical black nylon. About the only thing we wished we had on the bag’s exterior was a dedicated pocket to keep a cell phone within easy reach.
Under the graphic flap, which is held in place by a wide Velcro strap, an accordion fold compartment contains organizer pockets for a cell phone or MP3 player, a larger pocket that could hold a CD jewel case, and two pen loops. This compartment is somewhat expandable, so there’s plenty of room for a paperback, makeup bag, or other accessories; we do wish there were zippers down the sides of the compartment to allow for easier access to its contents. The bag’s open main compartment is divided into two spaces. In the front there’s room for notepads and file folders, plus a small zippered pocket on the front wall that can keep important papers or discs secure. In the back is the laptop compartment, lined on all sides with Mobile Edge’s SafetyCell padding, which reminds us of a fabric-covered bubble wrap. (A similar padding strategy can be found in the more expensive Skooba Satchel 2.0 Luxe.) A Velcro strap across the top of the compartment holds the laptop in place.

Laptop bags may seem boring to some. But the reality is, some new and veteran models are anything but. This week: a look at some of the more interesting laptop bags.
The Pulp Fiction Bag
For the ladies, Mobile Edge sells something cloyingly called the CuteBug laptop bag ($90). The cool thing about these messenger-style bags: They feature vintage pulp fiction-inspired designs.
The “Bright Promises” bag holds laptops with up to a 15.4-inch screen, while the “Kisses and More Kisses” bag holds laptops with up to a 14.1-inch screen.

The Holidays are thought of as a time for charitable giving. So wouldn’t it be great to get a gift for a loved one or friend and at the same time give to a worthy cause?
Well, buying a bag from Mobile Edge’s Caring Case Collection might be the answer. Every time you buy a case from this collection, Mobile Edge give 10 percent of the sale price to one of two charities. I decided to check out a backpack from the Komen Collection, the Komen Paris. Can this backpack actually work well and do good at the same time?
The Komen Paris Backpack Specifications:
- Proceeds to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure
- Exterior Dimensions: 12.5″ W x 16″ L x 6″ D
- Compartment Dimensions: 11.2″ W x 13.2″ L x 1.9″ D
- Weight: 3.5 lbs.
- Black Microfiber and Faux Leather
- Ergonomic Cool-Mesh ventilated back panel
- The SafetyCell computer protection compartment
- Removable accessories/cosmetics pouch
- Lifetime warranty
Design and Aesthetics
The Komen Paris is a part of the special edition Komen Collection which features Mobile Edge For Her Bags in the trademark breast cancer pink and include a metal breast cancer ribbon keychain. However, Mobile Edge does sell the regular Paris backpack in other colors and fabrics. The outside of the Komen Paris is stylish in a mix of black and pink with silver buckles and hardware. The bag is a made of a black microfiber except for the front faux leather flap that covers the compartment zippers. Not to worry, the faux leather is not made of that ugly fake leather, “pleather.” I even had people ask me if the faux leather was real. Running down the middle of the bag is a solid pink stripe with a silver buckle in the middle that secures the faux leather flap. There is also pink stitching around the outer edge and on all the zipper pulls.
Underneath the faux leather flap there are two large zippered compartments and a smaller, mesh zippered pocket. The mesh pocket is perfect for small items that you want to be able to reach easily. I kept my cell phone, iPod and a small billfold in this pocket.
The first zippered compartment has six pockets inside of it. Mobile Edge refers to this section on their website as a “workstation.” Two of the pockets are zippered mesh pockets similar to the previous mesh pocket only smaller. These pockets would be perfect for keys, pens/pencils, a flash drive, post-it notes, and other small office supplies.
The other three pockets in the workstation are closed with Velcro straps. The top two are smaller; perfect for a cell phone, PDA, video iPod, etc (I kept two wireless mice I reviewed in these pockets). The third Velcro pocket could be used for small accessories like a mouse, USB extension cords, a mini hub, or a cell phone charger. The last pocket is just a large open pocket. Slip a notepad in, or store a power cord in this pocket. The second zippered compartment is perfect for storing textbooks or spiral notebooks. I kept my purse, gloves and my organizer in this pocket. This pocket also has a key fob with the accessories/cosmetics pouch attached. The pouch isn’t huge and it’s made of cheap fabric but it would be perfect for makeup.

Doug Aamoth over at CrunchGear just wrapped up a review of the Mobile Edge Komen Milano as part of the CG Holiday 2007 Recommendations. Here is a little of what he had to say about the Komen Milano:
Looking for that special gift for the lady in your life? Or maybe you’re ready to tell the lady in your life that you’ve been following (but doesn’t know you exist) how much she means to you. Or maybe you really like pink and you want to give a little to a worthy cause.
Whatever the case, consider the Komen Milano from Mobile Edge. It’s made of faux pink crocodile and 10% of the $129.99 purchase price will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a breast cancer charity.
