New Mobile Edge laptop bag showcased in Gadget Guide

Matthew Olivolo May 28th, 2008

All new Mobile Edge TPS Signature ToteThe Design Team at Mobile Edge created a new collection of laptop bags created for the sophisticated mobile woman. The TPS Collection is comprised of an array of Mobile Edge traditional styled cases using new material that uses discrete thin pink stripes.

In that Collection, the new TPS Signature Tote has already gained some recognition. Laptop Magazine puts out an annual Mobile Gadget Guide and their Editor’s wanted to include the Signature Tote in their laptop bag round up featuring several Hot new styles.

The TPS Signature Tote of course stood out because it was designed for women by women. Other companies may think that creating a woman’s laptop bag men’s sprinkle some pink on it and it is an instant feminine bag. We took this category to the next level. We hired women designers that know style and are very current on what’s hot and what’s not. Over the years they have realized what customers want and need. Incorporating subtle features like a removable cosmetics pouch, or a lipstick or mascara holder, and styles and colors only a woman would appreciate make our Women’s Collection stand apart from the competition.

This Zinc lined pocket blocks our Wireless Hackers from accessing your Bluetooth enabled cell phones, PDAs or smart phones. It also helps you when going into meetings, never worry about interrupting the meeting again with your phone ringing. All calls go straight to voice mail.

The flattened non-slip shoulder straps make this a comfortable tote to carry. The non-slip straps will stay on your shoulder when walking.

Priced at $99.99 and available in June, this new women’s laptop tote is sure to make a statement. It’s chic, sophisticated and innovative all in one.

Mobile Edge laptop bag concepts TSA approved

Matthew Olivolo May 28th, 2008

Mobile Edge submitted three new design concepts to the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) in an effort to help make traveling through airport screening checkpoints easier and quicker. We know how daunting those long lines at the airport can be, and this is a way to help alleviate those long lines.

TSA agent searches through laptop bag.The TSA sent out an official request (RFI) to leading laptop bag manufacturers to make the “perfect laptop bag” in which the TSA will approve themselves. Of course the design team at Mobile Edge was at the top of their list and jumped all over that request.

Without giving our competition too much information, we submitted three designs that are sure to be approved through the TSA. Anything we can do to help relieve some of the wait when traveling through airport screening checkpoints will help.

One of the guidelines the TSA had was to create a laptop bag that would open all the way up so the user would not have to take their laptop completely out of the bag. This would in turn help make the line move quicker, helping passengers get to their terminals in a timely manner. This would remove one additional step we have to take when traveling.

One thing is for sure, Mobile Edge will have TSA approved laptop bags very soon. Once they are approved from the TSA, we will make sure our customers are aware of these new and innovative laptop cases. Stay tuned for more information . The TSA will announce which designs they approve over the next few months!

Flying first class with Mobile Edge laptop cases

Matthew Olivolo May 16th, 2008

Once you fly first class you may never want to go back. The benefits of flying first class outweigh savings of flying coach. At Mobile Edge we ensure our products are always made with the highest quality materials making our products first class. Once you use a Mobile Edge laptop bag, you will never want to go back. Between the Lifetime Warranty, innovative styling and exclusive features there is no comparison.

I found this article about flying first class that was quite interesting. I only clipped a small percentage of the story. If you want to read the full story, click on the link in the last paragraph.

By James Hutchinson

Flying on commercial airlines can be a frustrating, annoying experience. Flying first class is a way to enjoy superior comfort and service. The price can be high, but the benefits are considerable.

First Class All The WayThe first class experience begins even before you board the plane. Many airports have separate lines for security that can be used by first class passengers, as well as frequent flyers.

On boarding, airlines will board first class passengers first, giving them time to relax before the crush of coach passengers board. On some planes, coach passengers walk through the first class cabin, and can observe that drinks are already being served before the flight takes off.

Boarding first enables passengers to stow baggage in the empty overhead compartments. The ample storage area in front area is reserved for first class passengers.

Seating in First Class

The seats are wide, with extra padding for comfort. The general rule is that two first class seats are as wide as three coach seats. There is an area to place items next to the seat, as well as a tray that unfolds from the side.

Flight attendants will usually take coats and jackets and hang them nicely in a closet, keeping them neat and out of the way, in contrast to coach, where they stay on the lap or are jammed into the overhead storage.

More flight attendants are assigned to first class. A flight with 200 coach passengers may have four attendants, with one primarily dedicated to the 16 first class passengers.

Vertical Laptop Messenger Bag by Mobile Edge

The new CuteBug Hipster was reviewed by Technology Editor Sarah Meyer from Notebookreview.com. She liked the styling and laptop protection the Hipster provided. Check out her review below.

By Sarah Meyer

Mobile Edge released the Cutebug line of bags, hipsters and clutches – all designed by Maddie Powers – a few months back and we got one in for review recently. The Cutebug Hipster has the iconic trademark of the line but will it measure up to its peer’s quality wise? Can a bag that is so slim really be useful to a notebook owner?

Design and Aesthetics

The Mobile Edge Cutebug Hipster by Maddie Powers comes in pink and burgundy with black accents and hardware. The company says it will soon be releasing black and green versions and already have a sample picture up on the website.
All the burgundy sections of the bag seem to be made out of velvet like material and the front of the bag has Maddie Powers’ trademark “pulp magazine images from the 40s and 50s” along with the text “ideal Love magazine” and “Believe My Heart.” In the bottom corner there is a Cutebug logo.
Mobile Edge Hipster reviewed by Notebookreview.comIf you flip open the magnetic front flap, there is a medium sized zippered pocket, an id/business card holder and three pen/pencil pockets. You can fit a thin wallet, cell phone, a digital camera, MP3 player, etc. in the medium sized pocket. On the inside of the flap there is a clear id pocket.
The bulk of the bag is dedicated to carrying a 14.1″ notebook and comes with a removable pink neoprene sleeve. The sleeve is pretty typical with a soft inside lining to prevent scratching. There is one large zippered pocket on the inside of the bag but will only fit a thin paper notebook while the laptop is inside the bag.

The back of the bag is completely covered in that same burgundy velour material as the front and there is another large zippered pocket. It could be used to a hold a paper notebook or other slim accessories.

The shoulder strap is not removable but the soft non-slip padding is, if you’re not a padding kind of person.

The Cutebug Hipster and all the products in the Maddie Powers line are for a specific kind of person. They are trendy but border on kitschy, although not so much in quality, as the hipster seems very well made.

Tips for better business travel

Matthew Olivolo May 9th, 2008

Traveling is not always a pleasurable experience. At Mobile Edge we understand this and want to make every effort to help you travel smart. That is why we offer laptop bags, cases, messenger bags, briefcases, totes, backpacks, Passport Wallets and more to make Business Travel easier. Here are some very helpful travel tips which may help you on your next trip. I found these travel hints on a cool website called Silicon.com.

Business traveler at airport• Pre-book your seats, print and keep the confirmation as online booking systems can fail, leaving you in the enviable position to prove you are on the flight and in the right seat. — Phil Young, head of IT operations, Amtrak Express Parcels
• Ask for a specific seat when checking in. Make a note from past travels on a route or, if you’re travelling to or from the US and know the plane/airline, use seatguru.com – even the best business or first class seats can vary by being close to or far from galleys, toilets or even other seats. — Tony Hallett, editor, silicon.com
• Check the rules for bringing in telecoms equipment such as a personal VPN device as some countries place restrictions on their ‘import’. — David Supple, head of IT and creative services, Ecotec
• Never put your laptop in your hold luggage, even if you’re not using it during your flight. The tender ministrations of the baggage handlers have dispatched more than one of my laptops to the great repair shop in the sky. — Jo Best, senior reporter, silicon.com
• Get a big wallet that takes passport, tickets and receipts all together in one place. — David Supple, head of IT and creative services, Ecotec
• Buy a light travel bag that holds a change of clothes, laptop, charger, phone, pen, paper and has a handle, shoulder and backpack straps. — Rob Bamforth, analyst, Quocirca
• Take your own Ethernet cable with you – plenty of hotels now have ports for broadband but either run out of cables or other guests have broken them. — Tony Hallett, editor, silicon.com
• Carry a couple of USB memory sticks because half the time you won’t be able to connect your laptop to whatever projection system you’re using and the only way to show off that vital presentation will be to stick the USB stick into the system’s USB port. — Steve Ranger, business editor, silicon.com
• Pack paper and pen – they have a longer battery life than your laptop and are more multi-functional. — Rob Bamforth, analyst, Quocirca
• Always carry some cash – sterling or US dollars. — Chris Broad, head of IS and technology, UK Atomic Energy Authority
• Don’t carry more than you need (spares, extra clothes etc), buy replacement/extra items at an airport. — Bob Tarzey, analyst, Quocirca
• I usually carry a variety of metal things in my jacket pockets – pens, keys, coins, phone, memory stick, spectacles/cases, calculator (in wallet), business card case, etc – and I have found that, when going through airport security, it is easier and much quicker for me to take my jacket off and put in on the conveyor belt of the X-ray machine, than it is for me to try and remember to take everything out of all the jacket pockets into a silly little plastic tray, and then put them all back again. — Ted Woodhouse, director of IT strategy, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
• Stay healthy. Would you really eat peanuts and crisps, drink wine, have chocolate and drink coffee all day at the office? OK – so maybe you would. But on a plane, you need to keep hydrated to avoid getting tired. Take water and perhaps some fruit – and avoid coffee and alcohol. — Simon Briskman, lawyer, Field Fisher Waterhouse
• Take your own bottle of water on the plane. Even in business class they never come round with the drinks enough and it’s too easy to get dehydrated. — Steve Ranger, business editor, silicon.com

Mobile Edge BEF Laptop Tote product review

Matthew Olivolo May 8th, 2008

The lovely Technology Editor Sarah Meyer of NotebookReview.com took time to review the Mobile Edge BEF Signature Tote. To read the full review click on the link listed below.

By Sarah Meyer
Mobile Edge is giving back to two great causes through their Caring Case Collection. They give 10 percent of the retail sales from any case in the collection to either the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation or the Boomer Esiason Foundation to fight Cystic Fibrosis.
I reviewed the Komen Paris Backpack in December and now I have the chance to review the BEF Signature Tote. And while the BEF Signature Tote is connected with a great cause (and a good football player, Go Bengals!); I’m still testing this tote to make sure it is worth your money.

Design and Aesthetics
Mobile Edge BEF Signature ToteThe Mobile Edge BEF Signature Tote comes in black with silver accents and hardware with the stitching all in white. The front of the tote has two silver buckles and a small BEF logo in blue at the top. On both sides of the tote there are smaller silver buckles and on the right hand side of the bag, a detachable phone pocket.
The BEF tote does zip shut at the top and the straps are flattened at the top to keep the bag from slipping off your shoulder. The inside of the bag is lined in a soft tan, suede-like material as is the outside of the accessory pouch.
The tote is fairly open but is spilt into two “sections” separate in the middle by the notebook compartment. The section closest to the front of the bag -where the BEF logo is located – has two large open pockets. These would be perfect for large wallets/billfolds, a power brick, wireless mouse or other medium to large sized accessories. There is also an enough room to fit one thick textbook, binder, paper notebook or similar item along with the laptop without the tote getting too bulky.
The second section consists of three pockets and four pen/marker holders. The largest pocket is a zippered one at the top of the tote. It could be used for keys, a digital camera, a MP3 or other small accessories that you want to keep in a slightly more secure pocket or just want to keep handy.
Below this pocket is a Velcro closing pocket lined with Mobile Edge’s Wireless Security Shield. It is suppose to be used to store cell phones or PDA’s and keeps them safe from hackers.
The third pocket is just an open pocket with a business card holder attached to the outside. It’s great for small office supplies like post it notes or a small calculator.
The notebook compartment is in the middle of the two sections and can fit up to a 15.4″ computer. The bottom of the compartment is lined with Mobile Edge’s SafetyCell Computer Protection and the sides are expandable for extra thick notebooks. There is an elastic Velcro strap that can be tightened or loosened depending on the size of your notebook.
Also inside the bag is a small removable accessory pouch that is perfect for make-up or other items you are afraid might leak since it’s lined with nylon.
The bottom of the bag is hard and seems to be made from leather. There are four small silver feet to keep the bag from dragging the ground constantly.

Using the bag
The BEF tote is stylish without screaming, “Look at me!” I liked the simple design and understated black and silver color choices. The only label on the entire bag is the small half inch BEF logo and it’s barely noticeable.
How comfortable I was carrying this tote was a nice surprise. I got sunburn on my shoulders the weekend before I started carrying this, so I was sure I was in for some pain with this tote. The flattened straps took some weight off and stayed in place, and while I did have some discomfort (this tote isn’t made out of air) I was pleased nonetheless.

Mobile Edge Sheba laptop bag video review

Matthew Olivolo May 7th, 2008

Tech editor Sierra Modro from GottaBeMobile.com did an in-depth video review of the Mobile Edge CuteBug Sheba, designed by Maddie Powers. Here is a brief overview of what she wrote and a link of her video review below.

By Sierra Modro

I love bags. All shapes, all sizes, but especially the funky bags and especially anything retro and girly. When I was at CES, I came across the new line of women’s bags from Mobile Edge designed by Maddie Powers. These bags are definitely not your average black computer bags!

Mobile Edge has a complete line of Maddie Powers bags, including messenger bags and more traditional briefcases (with a twist). I was sent a CuteBug Sheba by Mobile Edge to review, and let me first say, what a adorable bag! Granted, I really like pink and not all people do, but… wow! Totally eye-catching and distinctive. This is not a bag that will blend in. And that’s just what I was looking for.

With this bag so focused on being stylish, my immediate concern was that it wouldn’t be functional. Luckily, the Sheba is as functional as it is attractive. This is a small bag, so don’t expect to carry everything you own in it, but it can hold more than you may think. Check out my video to see more about the carrying capacity of this fun bag. It’s also possible to over stuff the bag given the way the Velcro is used. You can close the Velcro in a wide range of positions to accommodate large loads. Given that the neoprene computer sleeve is removable, this bag actually can fill a variety of needs, not just lugging around the computer. It seemed to be relatively durable and has no visible marks after daily use for over a month.

This bag would be a great gift for a woman of any age who likes to stand out a bit in the crowd. (Hint: Mother’s Day is this Sunday) If you need a larger bag, check out the Sheba’s big sister, the CuteBug Laptop Messenger bag. It has similar styling, but it accommodates up to a 15.4″ screen system. With a large green graphic and purple velvet trim, this is also a very distinctive bag.

Matthew Olivolo May 6th, 2008

A fashion blog site from Malaysia called Emmagem featured the Mobile Edge Caring Case Collection along with our Faux-Croc Portfolio Collection. Recently, there has been quite a Buzz about our products in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. I think they discovered how stylish our products truly are.

We’re afraid laptop bags are not cheap, if not then it would not serve its purpose as a laptop bag, would it? Laptop bags need to be sturdy and it has to protect the laptop most importantly.

Get a bag with bold colors instead, if you cannot find a stylish bag. . . Here are some suggestions. . .

ABC News Technology Reporter Andrea Smith featured three Mobile Edge laptop bags in a Mother’s Day Gift Idea segment on the local ABC affiliate in New York City. She showcased the Komen Milano, the BEF Signature Tote and the Monaco Notebook Case.

She talked about some of the functionality of the laptop bags while her co-anchor modeled the Komen Milano.
