Mobile Edge Bluetooth Headset – Car & Driver Magazine

Car adn Driver Magazine review of Mobile Edge Bluetooth Headset

Fresh off the presses, the Mobile Edge Bluetooth Headset smartly named the Comfort Fit was featured in the September 2009 Edition of Car and Driver Magazine. In their “Gear Box” section, editors reviewed five different headsets. All priced well over $100 ($120 to $130), our Comfort Fit Headset is priced at $59.99. It’s nice to know that companies like Mobile Edge can produce a quality product that is half the price of its competition.

Car and Driver Magazine Cover - September 2009In a time where people really do not have extra money to spend, we at Mobile Edge want to ensure we continually produce quality products that are priced right. Each Bluetooth Headset we sell comes with a one year warranty. This is important because more and more states are requiring hands free options when talking on your cell phone and driving.

I personally use the Comfort Fit Headset everyday and I have to say it works great. It’s name is derived from the comfortable ear piece. It’s patent pending design uses small little soft finger-like pieces that contour to your ear. It stays inside your ear easily and is so light you forget it is even there. It really is a great price for a quality Bluetooth Headset.
Mobile Edge also offers another Bluetooth Headset that is just as light just a different form factor called the PowerSmart Headset. Simply fold the headset to engage a phone call or make a call.

The PowerSmart Bluetooth Headset combines award-winning design with comfort, superior sound quality and amazing power saving features to provide the best of all worlds! With up to 60 days of ultra power save, you’ll always have power when you need it, and the 6 hour talk time will keep you connected even during the longest conversations.

The unique folding design allows you to fold it for use, and simply straighten it back out for easy storage when not in use. When straight, the power save mode automatically engages, making sure it will be ready when you need it next. Noise and echo cancellation means you’ll have clear-as-a-bell conversations, while the lightweight, in-ear design and 3 included earbuds make the unit so comfortable, you’ll forget you’re wearing it!

The PowerSmart Headset won the iF Design Award of Excellence for 2009! Check out the Mobile Edge Bluetooth Accessories section by clicking here.

Mobile Edge Eco-Friendly Collection of Stylish Laptop Bags

Making Business Travel (More) Eco-Friendly

By Greig Waddell, About.com

Refusing to travel altogether is one way to go green, but if you need to keep your job, traveling may be unavoidable. These green travel tips can help you reduce your carbon footprint while work.

Flying may be unavoidable in many instances, but there are things you can consider when it comes to air travel:
• Fly non-stop when possible; you’ll get there faster and reduce emissions.
• Will a train do? Use alternative modes of transportation whenever possible.
• Plan trips wisely; try to plan meetings back-to-back so you can take one flight to the furthest destination and then work your way back home.

2. Carry Green
From your carry-on bag to your toiletry kit and clothes, make eco-friendly purchases whenever possible. Some things to look for include:
• Naturally-occurring fibers (cotton, bamboo) – Mobile Edge Eco-Friendly Collection made with cotton canvas
• Toiletry items made from organic materials and without animal testing

3. Skip the Car Rental
If you can, skip the car rental altogether and take public transportation instead. Headed to the boonies? Other alternatives for cutting back on car emissions include sharing a car or renting hybrids.

4. Conserve on the Road
From recycling to carrying your own water bottle and switching off lights and electronics when not in use, pretend you are footing the bill for all of your energy use. You likely watch the thermostat and long showers at home, so don’t give up that thrifty spirit on the road. Some other ways to cut back:
• Hang up those towels; follow any hotel guidelines for conserving towel use.
• Don’t be wasteful; tote partially-used hotel toiletries home to the kids.

5. Support Green Companies
If you have a choice in where you stay and eat on the road, you can, at least, reduce your negative environmental impact. Support hotels, restaurants and local stores with green initiatives, such as:

Mobile Edge is proud to make Green products by introducing a new collection of Eco-Friendly Laptop Bags, constructed with natural cotton canvas. Additionally, the Research and Development Team are currently testing new materials that are use organic replenish-able materials. Click here to see the collection.

Mobile Edge Buys Sumo Laptop Bag Brand from Bay Area Co.
By SARAH TOLKOFF
Orange County Business Journal Staff

Technology reporter - Sarah Tolkoff - Orange County Business JournalSumo Sleek
Anaheim’s Mobile Edge LLC, which makes hip laptop bags, backpacks and accessories, recently bought the Bay Area’s HS International LLC.

Mobile Edge went after HS International to get its Sumo brand, best known for its fashionable laptop cases geared for Apple Inc.’s MacBooks. Its cases feature a distinctive motif—a silhouette of a squat sumo wrestler. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

The deal is set to expand Mobile Edge’s product offerings and grow its presence in the laptop category, according to G. David Cartwright, founder and chief executive.

Mobile Edge is set to build on the Sumo product line. It’s adding slim computer sleeves designed to protect a PC inside of another bag—for notebooks and their smaller cousins, Netbooks.

It’s also set to include non-computer-related bags, including duffel bags and collapsible storage cubes, the company said.

The company plans to market the Sumo lineup to younger customers, mostly high school and college students.

Mobile Edge’s bags are geared toward young professionals.

Cartwright is an industry veteran; he is one of the founders of Anaheim’s Targus Inc., which has roughly 60% of the market for laptop cases and related accessories sold in stores.

In 2001, Cartwright stepped down from his post as president at Targus and founded Mobile Edge.

The company has sought to one-up Targus on style with computer bags for women and young people.

Congratulations to Nancy Brinker Medal of Freedom Recipient

Matthew Olivolo August 12th, 2009

Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded to Nancy Brinker - Susan G. Komen for the CureMobile Edge is a proud Corporate Partner with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help raise money for research and awareness to fight Breast Cancer as a life threatening disease.

Today, Founder and sister to Susan G. Komen, Nancy Brinker, was awarded the nation’s highest award a civilian can be awarded, the coveted Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.

Nancy along with 15 other Medal of Freedom recipients stood before a large crown in the Oval Office in Washington D.C. Below is the official news I clipped from the Associated Press (AP) news wire.

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama presented the nation’s highest civilian honor to 16 actors, athletes, activists, scientists and humanitarians.
Among those receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom at a White House ceremony Wednesday are film star Sidney Poitier, civil rights leader Rev. Joseph Lowery and tennis legend Billie Jean King.

Others being honored are retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and retired Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy is getting the medal, too, but the Massachusetts Democrat is not at the White House due to his fight against brain cancer.

Posthumous awards are going to former Republican Rep. Jack Kemp of New York and gay rights activist Harvey Milk.

Drawing strength from tragedy, Nancy Goodman Brinker has transformed the nation’s approach to breast cancer. When her sister was diagnosed in 1977, most breast cancer victims knew relatively little about the disease and suffered from popular stigmas. Nancy G. Brinker promised to challenge these norms. She founded Susan G. Komen for the Cure in honor of her sister, and today, the organization supports research and community awareness programs across the United States and around the world. Nancy G. Brinker’s unique passion and determination have been a blessing to all those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

Nancy Goodman Brinker is the founder of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world’s leading breast cancer grass roots organization. Brinker established the organization in memory of her sister, who passed away from breast cancer in 1980. Through innovative events like Race for the Cure, the organization has given and invested over $1.3 billion for research, health services and education services since its founding in 1982 and developed a worldwide grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists who are working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find cures. Brinker has received several awards for her work, and has also served in government as U.S. Ambassador to Hungary (2001 – 2003), Chief of Protocol of the U.S. (2007 – 2009), and Chair of the President’s Cancer Panel (1990). In May, Nancy Goodman Brinker was named the first-ever World Health Organization’s Goodwill Ambassador for Cancer Control.

Mobile Edge Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags work

Matthew Olivolo August 3rd, 2009

I have to say I love technology. I was traveling with my ScanFast Backpack through John Wayne Airport this week and took a picture with my iPhone of this very helpful TSA agent. Yes, I said helpful and TSA in the same sentence. Although the Transportation Security Administration may have a bad rap, I have to say when I travel with any of our Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags I never have a problem. In fact I always receive the same response from all of them. I’ll watch and wait for them to say something. I’ll hear almost verbatim, “Nice bag, great design. I wish more people used these cases, it would help make the lines move quicker.”

TSA agent approves of my ScanFast BackpackThat is the exact reason why this collection was created in the first place. I posted this picture on my Facebook page and on TwitPic, and Technology Editor John Biggs posted the below post on one of my favorite blogs Tech Crunch.

By John Biggs, Tech Crunch

This picture, taken at the John Wayne Airport by Matthew Olivolo of Mobile Edge shows one of his ScanFast backpacks being inspected by the nicest TSA lady I’ve ever seen. What does this suggest? That perhaps those checkpoint friendly backpacks are finally gaining some traction.

We’ve done reviews of these new backpacks but it’s great to see that they’re working in the wild. Anyone else have any experience with them at a checkpoint?Send me some of your experiences using your ScanFast laptop case and I will send you some FREE Mobile Edge gear. Send them to me at mo@mobileedge.com.
