Mobile Edge ScanFast Backpack spotted on 605 Freeway

Matthew Olivolo August 26th, 2011

As John Cramer, Director of Business Development at Mobile Edge, was driving home on the 605 Freeway, he spotted a Mobile Edge ScanFast Backpack. Although this is a common occurrence to see this specific popular styled bag in airports, it was refreshing to see a motorcycle rider using the bag as his daily commuter bag.

The ScanFast 2.0 Collection of Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags is one of the most popular styles of laptop cases Mobile Edge manufacturers. If you see a Mobile Edge laptop bag around town or on the highway, snap a picture and send it in to me at mo@mobileedge.com and I will send you a FREE Mobile Edge gift.

Sumo Professional Briefcase by Mobile Edge

Matthew Olivolo August 17th, 2011

Fashion Blogger and Designer Kate Trgovac, reviews our new Sumo Professional Briefcase and points out that not all black bags are made equal. In fact, at times Black Bags actually are what you need to match that special suit or outfit. Here is a portion of her review. A staple in your laptop’s wardrobe

By Kate Trgovac, Fashion Blogger
My closet is full of work clothes, but I can only classify one outfit as “the perfect work suit”. My perfect work suit fits me like a glove. It looks good standing up for a presentation – it looks good sitting down for an interview. I can trust it to carry me through the day with confidence and it always adds a little spring in my step. The Sumo Professional Laptop Briefcase from Mobile Edge, with its funky look, sturdy construction, and superior laptop cosseting capabilities makes it the perfect briefcase counterpart to my perfect work suit. This bag is great for client meetings in the city or when I travel out of town on business. Actually, it’s perfect to take with me on vacation too – it’s for any occasion when I need my laptop (and why be coy? That’s pretty much every occasion.)

The Sumo professional briefcase has a front zippered compartment for quick, easy access. There are accessory pockets, space for my business cards and keys, and when I take this bag with me to the airport, I can stow my passport and boarding pass in there.

Unzipping the main compartment of the bag reveals two storage areas sandwiched on either side of a laptop sleeve. The large front storage compartment is, like my perfect work suit, made to complement accessories. There are storage pockets for my electronic doo-dads, including a pocket that is lined with soft fabric. I put my iPhone there to keep it scratch-free.

There’s also plenty of room for my A/C adapter and various cords. The cushioned, corduroy laptop sleeve is positioned in the middle of the bag, acting as a divider between front and back storage sections. My 15″ MacBook Pro fits perfectly. The manufacturer states that it will fit a PC laptop up to 11″ x 16″ x 2″, and this is realistic. When packed up, the center-positioned sleeve made the bag extremely comfortable to wear. Rather than a rigid laptop against my hip, the storage area next to my body had a more give and the bag felt more balanced.

The right case for the right client by Mobile Edge

Matthew Olivolo July 29th, 2011

Tracy Penton, a promotional products veteran working for Inner Workings, a leading global provider of managed print and promotional solutions, received a call from one of her larger clients Samsung. They were looking for a high-end bag that had a distinct look and stylish shape to it that would fit their new Galaxy Tablet. Her initial thought was a Mobile Edge case.

Tracy then called Mobile Edge account manager, Chris Busse, and explained to him what her client needed. Tracy needed approximately 225 tablet cases, so Chris went to work for her.

Chris offered four different laptop bags giving Tracy and her client a few choices to choose from, with each case mocked up virtually with their logo. Chris sent out a physical sample of the Mini Messenger which was their first choice from the selection.

As expected, Tracy’s client was very pleased with their choice after seeing the messenger in person, and ordered 250 of the Mobile Edge Mini Messengers. With plenty of lead time, the decorated Mini Messengers were delivered on time and looked fantastic.

“My client was extremely excited about this bag, and very pleased with the finished product,” Tracy explained. “The tablet fits in the case perfectly and provides plenty of protection as well.”

Chris is now working with Tracy on future orders with Samsung and some of her other large clients.

Mobile Edge – Made for travel in a digital world

Matthew Olivolo July 18th, 2011

By Kate Trgovac, Fashionable Laptop Bag editor
As I’ve mentioned before, TSA regulations allow for laptops to remain in their sleeves if the bag meets TSA guidelines. If you’re looking for a laptop briefcase that get you through that (sometimes terrible) line-up at airport security a little faster, then it’s worth checking out the ScanFast Checkpoint Friendly Briefcase 2.0 by Mobile Edge.

Black and sleek, this bag is function, function, function all the way. The front of the bag has four zippered pockets. There are two pockets shaped and sized for cords and power-bricks, and there is a large flat, zippered pocket for reading materials. The fourth pocket is a smaller zippered pocket for quick access. I’m stashing my airline ticket and identification in there.

The briefcase opens clamshell-style. One side has a built-in slot for my laptop, and the other has storage for documents and accessories. The laptop pocket is made to fit laptops with up to 16″ screens. It easily fits my MacBook Pro, and it will definitely fit a PC as well. The elastic and Velcro strap firmly secured my laptop. The “Checkpoint Friendly” label on the pocket will remind TSA agents that bag is cool to go through the X-ray. It’s ALL COOL, TSA.

The front storage area of the bag holds all the usual “briefcase” contents that you may need. There is a handy series of multi-purpose pockets for my iPod and cell phone, pens, business cards, and a sturdy clip for my keys. And, as with Mobile Edge’s other security-friendly bags, there is a designated memory storage section, perfect for memory cards and thumb drives. For those of us who need to travel with data, thank goodness for that design feature – there’s a spot for my house keys AND my USB keys. There is also a zippered, netted pocket for other items.

Other nice features of this bag include the adjustable shoulder strap – it extends up to approx. 57″ hardware to hardware, which is longer than many other manufacturers. The shoulder pad is slim-lined, built-in, and extremely comfortable. The back of the bag has a pass-through so I can tote it along with my rolling luggage – always a nice feature.

Mobile Edge in the promotional products industry

Matthew Olivolo July 15th, 2011

Promotional Marketing professional Michelle Perkol, of Star Gift Alliance, received a call from one of her top clients, Nocturne Productions for a special backstage giveaway. Nocturne is the leading supplier of video production services for live stage shows. They were looking for a backpack specifically for the Blue Man Group Tour that had a sleek look and feel to it, yet was well padded and comfortable to carry. The bag also had to have ample room for storage and be color coordinated. After sending her client five different bags from other vendors, she remembered Mobile Edge. She contacted account manager Summer Valdez, and explained what her client was looking for.

Summer had a good idea of what case would be most suitable and recommended the new EVO Backpack. At first, Michelle’s client was torn between a competing bag and the EVO Backpack. Summer shipped a sample of the EVO Backpack for Michelle’s client to evaluate in person. After seeing the quality of the backpack firsthand and the Free virtual mock-up, Michelle’s client realized the EVO Backpack was the ideal choice.

“It was a challenge for me to find the right bag that had everything I was looking for, and the EVO Backpack had everything I needed and more,” explained Michelle Perkol. “The coloring was ideal and logo placement worked out great.”

The logo placement was a fun project and tied in perfectly with the Blue trim of the EVO Backpack. Using two separate logos and imprint methods, the ‘Blue Man Group’ logo was imprinted onto a rubberized patch which was then sewn on the top part of the Backpack. Then the ‘Nocturne’ logo was embroidered on the lower portion of the bag making a nice contrast and really tying in both logos nicely. As expected, both the distributor and client were extremely pleased with the finished product and will be re-ordering this product as a result.

Travel tips on Portfolio.com include Mobile Edge ScanFast cases

Shama Kabani, CEO Marketing Zen, international speaker, and traveler, shares her best-kept travel secrets.

Everything I’ve learned, I’ve learned from experience. Just these past six months alone have seen me in more than seven countries—from Hong Kong to Egypt. I travel mostly for business, and here are my best-kept secrets.

What to Pack: Anyone who has ever seen my closet will tell you I am not a minimalist. My luggage tells a different story. Convenience trumps choices when I travel more than 18 hours. If traveling overnight or for less than two days, I recommend only a carry-on. If you check a bag and it gets lost, the chances are you won’t have it back until your trip is over.

In my carry-on, I have my iPad 2 (I leave the Kindle at home since the iPad has a Kindle app), my laptop (only if I am giving a presentation, otherwise the iPad works), a sleeping kit (eye cover, socks, and a mini toothbrush), quality headphones, sunglasses, a packet of gum, and an extra shirt just in case. If the carry-on is my only luggage, I add a suit and a mini makeup and medicine bag. I stick to only one pair of shoes in which I can walk and present. Want to get through security faster? Use a TSA compliant, checkpoint friendly laptop bag. You can keep the laptop in its case. Mobile Edge makes a few good ones.
