Mobile Edge supports Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Matthew Olivolo December 9th, 2011

The Orange County Susan G. Komen Affiliate hosted their annual Grants Award Breakfast last week at the Westin South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Mobile Edge is a proud corporate partner with Susan G. Komen for the Cure nationally, and close partner with the Orange County Affiliate.

I had the opportunity to see just how the individual grants are awarded to local breast health care facilities. Wonderful people and clinics helping under privileged families that may not have the money to pay for a mammogram screening, or even health care for individuals who have breast cancer and need treatment.

As a local and national sponsor, it was very rewarding for me to see the individual lives every dollar impacts locally and nationally. Mobile Edge helps raise money for Komen in several ways. Locally, Mobile Edge produces 2,000 cancer survivor bags for the OC Race for the Cure each year and also donates Komen Laptop Bags to individuals who raise more than $6,000 for the Foundation.

Nationally, Mobile Edge donates to Susan G. Komen for the Cure with a minimum contribution of $25,000 annually. However, most of the time Mobile Edge exceeds that amount based on sales. Mobile Edge donates 10% of the retail sales price of each Komen Caring Case they sell, back to the Foundation.

To date, Mobile Edge has contributed a combined amount more than $325,000 and counting. Visit the Mobile Edge Caring Case Collection and see how you can help raise money for such an amazing organization and cause.

Matthew Olivolo October 28th, 2011

Mobile Edge is a Proud Partner of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and we are committed to helping fight Breast Cancer as a life threatening disease. We feel it is our Social Responsibility to give back to those in need. To do our part our designers were inspired to create the Caring Case Collection, which is comprised of pink-themed laptop bags all toting the symbolic pink breast cancer ribbon. Mobile Edge donates 10% of the retail selling price of each case in the Caring Case Collection directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

Mobile Edge is proud to announce that since 2004, we have partnered with Komen for the Cure and have contributed more than $300,000 to the fight against breast cancer. We are not surprised to hear that the Komen Foundation was just awarded the Non-Profit with the Biggest Impact on Cancer Award. Here is a press release with the details.

Charity Evaluator GuideStar Rankings Affirm Komen’s Leadership in Research, Community Outreach, Advocacy and Global Mission

DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, has also been named the cancer non-profit making the biggest impact in cancer advocacy and outreach by independent charity evaluator GuideStar.

The Number One ranking from GuideStar’s Philanthropedia arm is based on the assessments of 46 experts from 25 non-profits, universities and businesses, who reviewed 73 cancer non-profits and identified just 16 “top” cancer organizations. Komen for the Cure led that list.

“This is a tremendous recognition of the hard work that Komen staff, Affiliates and volunteers do every day to help women and end this disease,” said Komen founder and CEO Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker. “I know that every one of our employees, volunteers, donors and partners feels the tremendous pride I feel, knowing that our work is noticed and held in high regard.”

Komen has invested $685 million to breast cancer research and another $1.3 billion to community health and education programs since its founding in 1982. The organization currently is funding more than 500 active research grants totaling more than $300 million to institutions worldwide.

Komen’s research focus is on treatments for aggressive and metastatic disease, disparities in outcomes, preventive strategies and environmental issues in breast cancer, with a goal of bringing science from the laboratories to the public in the shortest period of time.

In communities, Komen and its 120-plus Affiliates partner with almost 2,000 organizations nationwide to provide treatment, aftercare, education and screenings, with a focus on getting low-income and uninsured women access to care. The organization funded 700,000 breast screenings last year and provided financial and social support to 100,000 women, helping to provide medical co-pays, prosthetics, child care, groceries and aftercare support programs.

Komen’s advocacy arm, the Komen Advocacy Alliance, preserved $100 million in public funding for breast cancer programs in 40 states this past year, while Komen’s global outreach expanded to more than 50 countries.

Brinker founded Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 1982 after promising her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer. “Our mission has never wavered since that promise,” Brinker said. “We are here to end suffering from this disease through research, education, and by providing real help to women and men in our communities.”

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide, with 1.6 million new cases of breast cancer expected in 2011 and 465,000 deaths. In the U.S., breast cancer is expected to be diagnosed in more than 230,000 women with 40,000 deaths this year. A woman dies of breast cancer, somewhere in the world, every 74 seconds.

Team Mobile Edge and Nancy Brinker

Matthew Olivolo October 7th, 2010

Mobile Edge is a proud corporate sponsor of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. On Sept. 26, 2010, Nancy Brinker, Founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure visited the Orange County Race for the Cure and took time for a quick photo. Her sister, Susan G. Komen died from breast cancer and Nancy made a promise to her to help fight this disease and find a cure.

My wife Christine and I had the pleasure of meeting her in person at this year’s Orange County Komen Affiliate Race for the Cure in Newport Beach, Calif.

It was absolutely a delight meeting Nancy in person and having the chance to speak with the compassionate woman behind one of the largest non-profit foundations in the world, and doing such great work.

Support the Komen cause by purchasing a stylish laptop tote, briefcase or backpack, and Mobile Edge will donate 10% of the retail sales price to the foundation. Our goal is to raise $100,000 this year alone and we need your help. Click here to visit the Caring Case Collection product page.

Team Mobile Edge at 2010 OC Komen Race for the Cure

Matthew Olivolo October 7th, 2010

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Mobile Edge is committed to helping fight Breast Cancer as a life threatening disease. Our designers created the Caring Case Collection, which is comprised of six pink-themed laptop bags all toting the symbolic pink breast cancer ribbon.

Mobile Edge donates 10% of each Komen product sold from the Caring Case Collection to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The money we raise goes directly to help pay for mammograms, research and development as well as awareness. We feel it is our corporate responsibility to give back, and this is a very important cause we feel compassionate about.

To date Mobile Edge has raised nearly $300,000.00 and counting.

Locally, each year Mobile Edge donates 2,000 Cancer Survivor Totes to the Orange County Komen Affiliate for all Cancer Survivors participating in the Race for the Cure in Newport Beach, Calif. This year was a great success with more than 30,000 participants attending the race even though we had a Heat Wave. It was 96 degrees in Newport Beach, which is unheard of especially that time of year.

Mobile Edge then compiles a Team of volunteers to show off our special Caring Case Collection to all race entrants at the Mobile Edge Booth. We raffled off four Pink Themed cases this year and awarded the winners their new Mobile Edge Laptop Case.

New TSA Checkpoint Procedures – Mobile Edge Blog

Matthew Olivolo April 14th, 2009

Since September 11, 2001, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has implemented several security checkpoint procedures.  One new procedure is allowing travelers to leave their laptop inside their Mobile Edge Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag when passing through airport security checkpoints.  This new collection exceeds TSA guidelines to be 100 percent TSA compliant.

By using the approved Mobile Edge laptop cases you will  save time going through security checkpoints, you will help the security lines moving quicker and will help protect your laptop from being forgotten or stolen.  In fact, it has been reported that more than 12,000 laptops are lost or stolen at airport security checkpoints weekly nationwide.  If more people used Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags this would help everyone move through the line quicker and possibly alleviate extended delays.

Also new for checked luggage is a fully automated screening machine.  In several major airports across the nation, there are new explosive screening machines that screen all bags that go through the system without a TSA agent having to touch the luggage.  If there is a suspicious looking bag, the screeners will flag the specific piece of luggage and give it a further inspection by an actual agent.  Click on the video to see exactly what I am describing. Stay tuned for more travel tips.
