Mobile Edge EVO Backpack featured on Game Revolution

Matthew Olivolo July 29th, 2010

By Chris Hudak, Gamer/Technology Editor, Game Revolution

Mobile Edge EVO Backpack - Ideal for 16" PC Laptops and 17" MacBook Pros. The Mobile Edge EVO Backpack has replaced all my other carry-on options in one fell swoop. My biggest gripe with most tech-luggage options… Pockets/compartments or rather, the glaring lack of enough of them of the right size, place and function. The EVO offers 16 compartments for a wide variety of specific purposes: There’s the main laptop sleeve, of course, sufficient to hold/protect laptops up to 16”/17” models.

There are also easily-accessible slots to hold typically-sized USB drives and memory cards, protected pockets suitable for both business cards and smaller electronics, a roomy dedicated media pocket with cable-ports for MP3 players or smartphones, holders for pens and pencils; a rugged moisture-resistant bottom panel protecting the main compartment; five good-sized, zippered outer compartments (one of which is specifically designed to ready access to bottled drinks of various sizes); and two secure outer mesh pockets for the small stuff you grab and stash most as you make your way through the airport, outside the hotel, into the dark, foreboding woods or what have you.

It’s all intelligently designed around a main interior space just big enough for a couple-day trip, and the straps are strong and comfy, with yet another secure mesh pocket right there, for yet another radio/phone/gadget, you techno-junkie, you.

Mobile Edge Women’s Express Backpack on PCMag.com

Matthew Olivolo July 21st, 2010

By Natalie Shoemaker, Technology Editor PC Magazine

Mobile Edge Women's Express Backpack ideal for 17" MacBook Pros or 16" PC LaptopsPC Magazine Editor's Rating - Very GoodI’m the kind of girl who likes to carry her life in her bags: I need to have my MacBook, a (paper) book, my iPod, my HTC Incredible, and all my other doodads each day. The Mobile Edge Women’s Express Backpack ($59.99 direct) is the perfect carrying solution for women who need to carry a lot of stuff without it weighing on them uncomfortably.

The first two things you’ll notice about the Express Backpack is its size (20 by 8.5 by 16 inches, HWD) and its design. The front of the pink-and-black bag is decorated with dotted ribbons (pink polka dots are also an option)–needless to say, this backpack is for those who like to emphasize their inner girly-girl. The bag is sturdy and weighs about 2.8 pounds.

The Express Backpack has five pouches: Two smaller ones on the right, one on the left, one small dome-shaped pouch on the top, and the main pouch making up most of the bag’s space. The main pouch can open fully, conveniently exposing the entirety of the bag’s insides. Here you’ll find a snug compartment to hold your laptop (up to16 inches), five small pockets attached to the inside walls to hold miscellaneous items, a pencil holder, and a main compartment to throw textbooks, games or even an Xbox 360.

The bottom of the bag is reinforced, in case one of your pens or pointy objects gets loose.

Mobile Edge EVO Backpack & Alienware Mx11 Portfolio at E3

Matthew Olivolo June 28th, 2010

Chris Hudak from Crave Online poses with a waitress at Trader Vics in LA as she holds the new Alienware Mx11 Portfolio by Mobile Edge.Technology writer Chris Hudak from Blog Sites including Machinima, Crave Online and Game Revolution is now testing the new Mobile Edge EVO Backpack and Alienware Mx11 Portfolio. He flew from San Francisco down to LA to attend E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo at the Staples Center last week. He’ll be posting a review soon on one or more of the blogs he writes for.

While Chris was attending the event, he toted around the Mobile Edge Alienware Mx11 Portfolio. He said he loved the sleek footprint of the new Mx11 which was designed to carry around Alienware’s newest gaming computer, the Mx11. It is made simply to carry around the computer, the power supply and a few peripherals . That’s what makes the portfolio lightweight and extremely mobile. The small design allows you to carry the portfolio in a larger bag if needed, or durable enough to carry by itself when you want to be light.

On the last day of the show I met with Chris at Trader Vic’s, a Tiki themed restaurant right around the corner from the Staples Center. In the photo, Chris is posing with a waitress showing off the new Alienware Mx11 Portfolio. Even she liked the portfolio. Chris is sporting a “Prinny” hat from NIS America, publishers for the Disgaea series of games.

This new case is hot and has been challenging to keep in stock due to its popularity. If you own an Mx11, you need this case for sure!

Stay tuned for Chris’s reviews on both products.

Alienware Orion Messenger Bag reviewed Notebookreviews.com

Alienware Orion ScanFast Messenger Bag and Alienware Mx11 Sleeve by Mobile Edge

By Jerry Jackson, Senior Editor Notebookreviews.com

EDITOR RATING:Notebook.com Editor rating. Rates the Mobile Edge Alienware Orion Messenger Bag four stars

Mobile Edge is a laptop bag and accessory manufacturer that has a history of making bags for Alienware gaming notebooks. Our editors had mixed feelings about some of the Alienware bags from Mobile Edge in the past, but the latest Alienware Orion Messenger (ScanFast) and Alienware Netbook Sleeve promise to exceed our expectations. I spent a few weeks using the new bag and sleeve with my Alienware M11x to see if these products are worth your hard-earned cash.

The Alienware Orion Messenger (ScanFast) is an update to the Alienware line of accessories from Mobile Edge and it indeed looks like a substantial improvement over the older Alienware-themed designs from Mobile Edge. The majority of the exterior and interior is made of 840 Denier Nylon but the front face of the bag features a semi-rigid panel of matte black foam/plastic that gives some added protection against impact if you’re tossing the messenger bag into an overhead compartment or you accidentally kick the bag under the seat while on a flight.

Alienware PCs are all about brand recognition and the same can be said for the Alienware Orion Messenger. The shoulder strap pad features the Alienware name in the official font. Every zipper has black metal versions of the alien head logo embedded in the durable rubber pull tabs. The mirror-polished metal alien head logo on the front panel of the bag is the most obvious indication that you’re looking at something related to Alienware, but I have to say it seems a little odd that the back of the bag doesn’t have any Alienware branding at all, just mesh padding and a handle sleeve that fits over your roller luggage in the airport.

Mobile Edge Backpack featured on NBC’s Community

Matthew Olivolo April 23rd, 2010

The comical TV Show “Community” on NBC has some great actors, and the writers truly are geniuses. Mobile Edge products can be seen on various episodes including this one with actor Alison Brie who is in love with her new TPS Backpack. In this scene Alison flaunts how she received the case for free and it’s the best bag she’s ever owned.

Sadly, at the end of this episode her co-star Joel McHale who plays the lead role sabotages the laptop backpack by shredding it and hanging it up in a hallway on the school campus for everyone to see. It is a sad moment for her (and us). However, in an upcoming episode Alison will have the opportunity to choose a new Mobile Edge laptop Backpack from her college bookstore for her to use in the entire next season.

LA Times Magazine features Sumo Messenger

Matthew Olivolo April 5th, 2010

Jod Kaftan - LA Times Magazine Senior Writer By Jod Kaftan, Senior Editor, LA Times Magazine

Yesterday’s nerd was a social pariah. He wore tucked-in terrycloth shirts and spent his Friday nights taking apart a radio and putting it back together. Now that same nerd has stock options, a girlfriend and a Tesla.
He’s still trying to figure out how to triangulate style, and one obvious way to accelerate his evolution is to get him a sick messenger bag for his second brain, the notebook computer.

Sumo Camo Messenger Bag by Mobile EdgeIf he’s carrying around one of those cheap leather Office Depot numbers, he’s still reminding everyone about his real DNA—dorksville. The messenger bag made its mark with a kind of tribal group of bike messengers from New York City who famously swore at pedestrians as they nearly broke bones with their tread. That’s a pedigree that will help any nerd project the darker, more mysterious energy most men need so they don’t get mugged. I’m not saying a cool messenger bag will turn Bill Gates into Randy Couture, but it’s a start.

Here are a few of my favorites:
• For the taciturn geek who hasn’t showed a flicker of emotion since Stephen Hawking’s last movie, a colorful unisex bag might serve as a kind of Patch Adams to make him leave his shell. The Sumo Messenger Bag takes some bold steps with Asian-style textiles and color but never allows form to upstage function. There’s a pronounced lack of Velcro under the flap, so when our nerd opens his bag he doesn’t sound like he just opened his wallet from 1979. Getting rid of the wallet will be for another post.

Ten tips to make your trip through the airport security checkpoint easier on everyone

By Scott Carmichael, Gadling Travel Editor

Flying can be a stressful way to spend your day, especially if you only fly once or twice a year. Reports of terror attempts and airport evacuations don’t make things any better. Thankfully, if you follow some simple tips, your trip through the checkpoint can be really simple, allowing you more time to enjoy the dreadful airport food, or to waste your money at the airport duty free shop.

We’ve gathered ten tips that can make your checkpoint experience as stress-free as possible. Not just for you, but for the hundreds of others trying to make it to the other side of the checkpoint at the same time.

Are you an “amateur” traveler? Were you allowed to carry box cutters and knives the last time you took a flight? Then chances are you are not up to date on the latest airport security rules. It is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, a prepared traveler is a rare breed, so consider yourself lucky that you are showing an interest in it.

The best starting point (other than this article) is of course the TSA web site. Their “what to know before you go” has the nitty-gritty on airport security, prohibited items and of course their own tips on getting through security as efficiently as possible.

Invest in a Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag

Mobile Edge ScanFast Collection of Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Cases that exceed all TSA guidelines

If you regularly pass through the checkpoint with a laptop, do yourself a favor and invest in a checkpoint friendly laptop bag. These bags are specially designed to fold open, allowing the x-ray machine a clear unobstructed view of your computer. They cost about 25% more than a normal laptop bag.

The advantage of a TSA friendly laptop bag is obvious – you don’t need to take your laptop out of its bag, greatly reducing the risk of damage. It also shaves about 30 seconds off your trip through the checkpoint. A good place to find a large assortment of checkpoint friendly bags is Mobile Edge. This company makes stylish bags for men and women, with bags starting at just $49.95.

Frisk *yourself*
Before you even think about stepping into the security line, frisk yourself. Really – run your hands up and down all your pockets, front and back. Remove anything metallic, and you’ll reduce the risk of missing that loose change or pocket knife. Don’t just assume the metal detector will find it for you.

Find the right line

Traveler Profiles for all types of air travelers posted by the TSA
Many airports have introduced separate TSA lanes for the different kind of traveler. The black or diamond lane is for the experienced traveler. These lanes won’t have as many staff members assisting you. The casual traveler lane may have someone helping point out the bins, and the family/medical liquid lane is where you’ll get the most help. Especially if you are traveling with kids, you’ll want to pick the green lane. Sadly, not all airports have adopted this system.

The lanes are not a contest – don’t worry if you need to go to the casual traveler lane, because picking the right lane will make life easier on you, and your fellow passengers.

TSA Friendly Carry-on Bags Avoid Delta Fees

Matthew Olivolo January 12th, 2010

By Helena Stone, Editor in Chief, Chip Chick

Mobile Edge ScanFast Onyx Backpack - Checkpoint Friendly BackpackCES may be over but the sting in my wallet still lingers and not from the casino tables, but from Delta airlines! As we all know traveling is getting more and more expensive as well as time consuming. Delta has announced that they are raising their pricing for checking bags in to $23 for the first checked bag and $32 for the second checked bag.

However, you don’t have to be a sucker and these three bags will not only fit into the overhead compartment to avoid luggage fees, they’re also TSA approved and they are pretty stylish too. Now I only wish that the TSA knew themselves what bags they really approved of.

Mobile Edge TSA ScanFast Onyx Checkpoint Friendly Backpack – Just because we are done with school that doesn’t mean you can’t still backpack it and look professional. Mobile Edge has a wide range of TSA friendly bags meant to get you in and out security fast and be big enough to cram all your junk into it.
