Mobile Edge Mini Messenger reviewed on Gadgeteer

Matthew Olivolo August 27th, 2008

Mobile Edge Mini MessengerThe new Mobile Edge Mini Messenger was reviewed by the well known Technology Editor, Julie Strietelmeier, from the Gadgeteer.

She gave her readers an in-depth perspective of the new Mini-Messenger which is designed for small Ultra Portable laptop computers, portable DVD players and digital cameras. Given its small posture, this messenger bag offers a lot for its size. The media pocket is perfect for storing your iPod, iPhone, or any MP3 player and comes with an easy access head phone pass through port.

Here is a quick overview of Julie’s review. To read the full review, click on the link below to go to the Gadgeteer Website.

By Julie Strietelmeier

Mobile Edge carries a nice selection of gear and laptop bags for both men and women. They recently sent me their Mini Messenger, which I’ve been using for a few days now to see how well it performs as an everyday bag for this Gadgeteer. Let’s see how it stood up…

Julie the Gadgeteer models the Mobile Edge Mini-Messenger.For quite a while now, my favorite style of gear bag has been the messenger style. I’ve been carrying the Timbuk2 Laptop Messenger since the beginning of the year.

However, I love this style for two main reasons. Reason number one: The flap can easily flop back and remain open. I typically leave mine open on my desk while I’m at work, or in the passenger seat of my car while I’m driving. Reason numberMobile Edge Mini-Messenger opened up sideways. two: Messenger bags usually have a large cavity for storage. I like pockets as much as the next person, but for the most part, I want a big open area that I can stuff large items into if needed - which I often do. I like the convenience of being able to carry the daily mail, newspaper and any packages that might have been delivered to my day job.

This bag is made of heavy-duty 1680D Ballistic Nylon and is available in four color styles, that include Black with Orange piping, Black with Pink piping, Black with Red front and Black with Silver front. I was sent the Black with Orange.

The materials and workmanship on this bag can’t be faulted. It’s a nice looking bag that can hold its fair share of gear and even a small notebook.

Mobile Edge Element Briefcase reviewed on Gear Diary

Matthew Olivolo August 27th, 2008

Judie Lipsett modeling the new Element Briefcase by Mobile Edge.Technology Editor and Fashionista, Judie Lipsett from Gear Diary (one of our favorite blog sites), posted an in-depth review of the new Mobile Edge Element Briefcase. She took the time to test out this stylish yet durable ladies laptop case taking lots of pictures of the pockets, interior shots of the striped lining and even took a photo with herself holding the case. I think this is important for ladies to see how the laptop bag actually looks when being carried. This shows the reader how the bag looks proportionately and actually looked great on Judie. For reference, Judie is 5′10″. The Element Briefcase comes in three colors, and she reviewed the Green Suede version.

Here is a brief overview of her review. To read the full review click on the link below. Enjoy…

By Judie Lipsett

Just in time for fall comes this beautiful new bag from Mobile Edge, the Element Briefcase With its moss green poly-suede exterior, chocolate faux leather trim, and white contrasting stitching, this bag is neutral enough to compliment any fall or winter outfit. But good looks are one thing; organization and laptop protection are just as important as presentation. Let’s take a look at how the Element measures up…

The Element is meant to be carried as a briefcase; two 15″ rolled faux leather handles are on either side, and although a woman with thinner arms could carry it on her shoulder that is not the intention. The Element is a larger bag, measuring approximately 16.5″ wide x 13.5″ tall x 5″ deep, it is designed to carry up to a 15.4″ laptop. All zippers have 1.5″ chocolate brown faux leather pulls, so they will be easy to open and close even when wearing gloves. The faux leather on either side of the suede center panels is slightly pebbled with a natural cowhide grain, which keeps the faux leather from looking like what it is. An 11.5″ wide 7″ deep zippered pocket is on the front, and it makes for the perfect place to carry plane tickets, a passport, or any other slim items that may need to be immediately accessed.

The interior of this front pocket gives a glimpse of the colorful and complimentary satin striped lining which is used throughout the bag. There is a metal “Mobile Edge for Her” plaque on a ball chain attached to the handle, and when it is removed, the small metal plaque (which states the same) on the right side will be the only external branding. Metal D-rings are located on either side of the bag for attaching the included shoulder strap.

What I Like: Pretty fall and winter bag with bright colorful lining; capable organizational pockets; padded dedicated laptop compartment; plenty of room for paperwork and files; those who abhor over-branding will like the simple hanging metal tag; can be carried as a briefcase or as a shoulder bag; I am really amazed by the excellent price, as it could easily sell for much more!
What Needs Improvement: Nothing

ScanFast laptop bags featured in New York Times

Matthew Olivolo July 28th, 2008

The New York Times Logo
The new ScanFast collection of laptop bags by Mobile Edge have created quite the buzz. Recently, John Biggs from the New York Times posted a review of the new collection in the Personal Technology Section.

Although competitors are working to release clam shell case designs, our design team actually put some time and effort into our new designs. This new ScanFast Collection consists of a backpack, a briefcase and a messenger bag, all designed to conveniently open for airport screeners and help speed travelers through the X-Ray screening process.

ScanFast Backpack by Mobile Edge. Here is a brief overview from the New York Times article:

With frustration mounting at airport security lines, something had to give.

The Transportation Security Administration has decided to give frequent travelers a break. When laptops are placed in certain cases, such as the ScanFast line from Mobile Edge, the agency does not require them to be removed for screening.

While many laptop-case manufacturers, including Targus and Skooba, are planning checkpoint-friendly cases, Mobile Edge will ship briefcases, backpacks and messenger bags next month (Sept).
The ScanFast bags separate the laptops from surrounding pockets, ensuring a clear picture in an X-ray machine.

Most bags still will have to be opened, but the Mobile Edge bags flip back to offer an unobstructed view of the laptop inside.

New Mobile Edge laptop bag showcased in Gadget Guide

Matthew Olivolo May 28th, 2008

All new Mobile Edge TPS Signature ToteThe Design Team at Mobile Edge created a new collection of laptop bags created for the sophisticated mobile woman. The TPS Collection is comprised of an array of Mobile Edge traditional styled cases using new material that uses discrete thin pink stripes.

In that Collection, the new TPS Signature Tote has already gained some recognition. Laptop Magazine puts out an annual Mobile Gadget Guide and their Editor’s wanted to include the Signature Tote in their laptop bag round up featuring several Hot new styles.

The TPS Signature Tote of course stood out because it was designed for women by women. Other companies may think that creating a woman’s laptop bag men’s sprinkle some pink on it and it is an instant feminine bag. We took this category to the next level. We hired women designers that know style and are very current on what’s hot and what’s not. Over the years they have realized what customers want and need. Incorporating subtle features like a removable cosmetics pouch, or a lipstick or mascara holder, and styles and colors only a woman would appreciate make our Women’s Collection stand apart from the competition.

Laptop Cover July2008

An exclusive feature only Mobile Edge offers is the Wireless Security Shield accessories pocket. This Zinc lined pocket blocks our Wireless Hackers from accessing your Bluetooth enabled cell phones, PDAs or smart phones. It also helps you when going into meetings, never worry about interrupting the meeting again with your phone ringing. All calls go straight to voice mail.

The flattened non-slip shoulder straps make this a comfortable tote to carry. The non-slip straps will stay on your shoulder when walking.

Vertical Laptop Messenger Bag by Mobile Edge

Matthew Olivolo May 15th, 2008

The new CuteBug Hipster was reviewed by Technology Editor Sarah Meyer from Notebookreview.com. She liked the styling and laptop protection the Hipster provided. Check out her review below.

By Sarah Meyer

Mobile Edge released the Cutebug line of bags, hipsters and clutches - all designed by Maddie Powers - a few months back and we got one in for review recently. The Cutebug Hipster has the iconic trademark of the line but will it measure up to its peer’s quality wise? Can a bag that is so slim really be useful to a notebook owner?

Design and Aesthetics

The Mobile Edge Cutebug Hipster by Maddie Powers comes in pink and burgundy with black accents and hardware. The company says it will soon be releasing black and green versions and already have a sample picture up on the website.
All the burgundy sections of the bag seem to be made out of velvet like material and the front of the bag has Maddie Powers’ trademark “pulp magazine images from the 40s and 50s” along with the text “ideal Love magazine” and “Believe My Heart.” In the bottom corner there is a Cutebug logo.
Mobile Edge Hipster reviewed by Notebookreview.comIf you flip open the magnetic front flap, there is a medium sized zippered pocket, an id/business card holder and three pen/pencil pockets. You can fit a thin wallet, cell phone, a digital camera, MP3 player, etc. in the medium sized pocket. On the inside of the flap there is a clear id pocket.
The bulk of the bag is dedicated to carrying a 14.1″ notebook and comes with a removable pink neoprene sleeve. The sleeve is pretty typical with a soft inside lining to prevent scratching. There is one large zippered pocket on the inside of the bag but will only fit a thin paper notebook while the laptop is inside the bag.

The back of the bag is completely covered in that same burgundy velour material as the front and there is another large zippered pocket. It could be used to a hold a paper notebook or other slim accessories.

The shoulder strap is not removable but the soft non-slip padding is, if you’re not a padding kind of person.

The Cutebug Hipster and all the products in the Maddie Powers line are for a specific kind of person. They are trendy but border on kitschy, although not so much in quality, as the hipster seems very well made.

Mobile Edge BEF Laptop Tote product review

Matthew Olivolo May 8th, 2008

The lovely Technology Editor Sarah Meyer of NotebookReview.com took time to review the Mobile Edge BEF Signature Tote. To read the full review click on the link listed below.

By Sarah Meyer
Mobile Edge is giving back to two great causes through their Caring Case Collection. They give 10 percent of the retail sales from any case in the collection to either the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation or the Boomer Esiason Foundation to fight Cystic Fibrosis.
I reviewed the Komen Paris Backpack in December and now I have the chance to review the BEF Signature Tote. And while the BEF Signature Tote is connected with a great cause (and a good football player, Go Bengals!); I’m still testing this tote to make sure it is worth your money.

Design and Aesthetics
Mobile Edge BEF Signature ToteThe Mobile Edge BEF Signature Tote comes in black with silver accents and hardware with the stitching all in white. The front of the tote has two silver buckles and a small BEF logo in blue at the top. On both sides of the tote there are smaller silver buckles and on the right hand side of the bag, a detachable phone pocket.
The BEF tote does zip shut at the top and the straps are flattened at the top to keep the bag from slipping off your shoulder. The inside of the bag is lined in a soft tan, suede-like material as is the outside of the accessory pouch.
The tote is fairly open but is spilt into two “sections” separate in the middle by the notebook compartment. The section closest to the front of the bag -where the BEF logo is located - has two large open pockets. These would be perfect for large wallets/billfolds, a power brick, wireless mouse or other medium to large sized accessories. There is also an enough room to fit one thick textbook, binder, paper notebook or similar item along with the laptop without the tote getting too bulky.
The second section consists of three pockets and four pen/marker holders. The largest pocket is a zippered one at the top of the tote. It could be used for keys, a digital camera, a MP3 or other small accessories that you want to keep in a slightly more secure pocket or just want to keep handy.
Below this pocket is a Velcro closing pocket lined with Mobile Edge’s Wireless Security Shield. It is suppose to be used to store cell phones or PDA’s and keeps them safe from hackers.
The third pocket is just an open pocket with a business card holder attached to the outside. It’s great for small office supplies like post it notes or a small calculator.
The notebook compartment is in the middle of the two sections and can fit up to a 15.4″ computer. The bottom of the compartment is lined with Mobile Edge’s SafetyCell Computer Protection and the sides are expandable for extra thick notebooks. There is an elastic Velcro strap that can be tightened or loosened depending on the size of your notebook.
Also inside the bag is a small removable accessory pouch that is perfect for make-up or other items you are afraid might leak since it’s lined with nylon.
The bottom of the bag is hard and seems to be made from leather. There are four small silver feet to keep the bag from dragging the ground constantly.

Using the bag
The BEF tote is stylish without screaming, “Look at me!” I liked the simple design and understated black and silver color choices. The only label on the entire bag is the small half inch BEF logo and it’s barely noticeable.
How comfortable I was carrying this tote was a nice surprise. I got sunburn on my shoulders the weekend before I started carrying this, so I was sure I was in for some pain with this tote. The flattened straps took some weight off and stayed in place, and while I did have some discomfort (this tote isn’t made out of air) I was pleased nonetheless.

Mobile Edge Sheba laptop bag video review

Matthew Olivolo May 7th, 2008

Tech editor Sierra Modro from GottaBeMobile.com did an in-depth video review of the Mobile Edge CuteBug Sheba, designed by Maddie Powers. Here is a brief overview of what she wrote and a link of her video review below.

By Sierra Modro

I love bags. All shapes, all sizes, but especially the funky bags and especially anything retro and girly. When I was at CES, I came across the new line of women’s bags from Mobile Edge designed by Maddie Powers. These bags are definitely not your average black computer bags!

Mobile Edge has a complete line of Maddie Powers bags, including messenger bags and more traditional briefcases (with a twist). I was sent a CuteBug Sheba by Mobile Edge to review, and let me first say, what a adorable bag! Granted, I really like pink and not all people do, but… wow! Totally eye-catching and distinctive. This is not a bag that will blend in. And that’s just what I was looking for.

With this bag so focused on being stylish, my immediate concern was that it wouldn’t be functional. Luckily, the Sheba is as functional as it is attractive. This is a small bag, so don’t expect to carry everything you own in it, but it can hold more than you may think. Check out my video to see more about the carrying capacity of this fun bag. It’s also possible to over stuff the bag given the way the Velcro is used. You can close the Velcro in a wide range of positions to accommodate large loads. Given that the neoprene computer sleeve is removable, this bag actually can fill a variety of needs, not just lugging around the computer. It seemed to be relatively durable and has no visible marks after daily use for over a month.

This bag would be a great gift for a woman of any age who likes to stand out a bit in the crowd. (Hint: Mother’s Day is this Sunday) If you need a larger bag, check out the Sheba’s big sister, the CuteBug Laptop Messenger bag. It has similar styling, but it accommodates up to a 15.4″ screen system. With a large green graphic and purple velvet trim, this is also a very distinctive bag.

Mobile Edge laptop bags featured on Malaysian Blog

Matthew Olivolo May 6th, 2008

A fashion blog site from Malaysia called Emmagem featured the Mobile Edge Caring Case Collection along with our Faux-Croc Portfolio Collection. Recently, there has been quite a Buzz about our products in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. I think they discovered how stylish our products truly are.

By Karen Marie

We’re afraid laptop bags are not cheap, if not then it would not serve its purpose as a laptop bag, would it? Laptop bags need to be sturdy and it has to protect the laptop most importantly.

Get a bag with bold colors instead, if you cannot find a stylish bag. . . Here are some suggestions. . .

The Mobile Edge Komen Full-Grain Leather Tote. This bag reminds me of the Coach tote! This online store ships to Malaysia, rest assured, as told by one of our readers earlier!
