She gave her readers an in-depth perspective of the new Mini-Messenger which is designed for small Ultra Portable laptop computers, portable DVD players and digital cameras. Given its small posture, this messenger bag offers a lot for its size. The media pocket is perfect for storing your iPod, iPhone, or any MP3 player and comes with an easy access head phone pass through port.

Here is a quick overview of Julie’s review. To read the full review, click on the link below to go to the Gadgeteer Website.

By Julie Strietelmeier

Mobile Edge carries a nice selection of gear and laptop bags for both men and women. They recently sent me their Mini Messenger, which I’ve been using for a few days now to see how well it performs as an everyday bag for this Gadgeteer. Let’s see how it stood up…

For quite a while now, my favorite style of gear bag has been the messenger style. I’ve been carrying the Timbuk2 Laptop Messenger since the beginning of the year.

However, I love this style for two main reasons. Reason number one: The flap can easily flop back and remain open. I typically leave mine open on my desk while I’m at work, or in the passenger seat of my car while I’m driving. Reason number two: Messenger bags usually have a large cavity for storage. I like pockets as much as the next person, but for the most part, I want a big open area that I can stuff large items into if needed - which I often do. I like the convenience of being able to carry the daily mail, newspaper and any packages that might have been delivered to my day job.

This bag is made of heavy-duty 1680D Ballistic Nylon and is available in four color styles, that include Black with Orange piping, Black with Pink piping, Black with Red front and Black with Silver front. I was sent the Black with Orange.

The materials and workmanship on this bag can’t be faulted. It’s a nice looking bag that can hold its fair share of gear and even a small notebook.

She took the time to test out this stylish yet durable ladies laptop case taking lots of pictures of the pockets, interior shots of the striped lining and even took a photo with herself holding the case. I think this is important for ladies to see how the laptop bag actually looks when being carried. This shows the reader how the bag looks proportionately and actually looked great on Judie. For reference, Judie is 5′10″. The Element Briefcase comes in three colors, and she reviewed the Green Suede version.

Here is a brief overview of her review. To read the full review click on the link below. Enjoy…

By Judie Lipsett

Just in time for fall comes this beautiful new bag from Mobile Edge, the Element Briefcase With its moss green poly-suede exterior, chocolate faux leather trim, and white contrasting stitching, this bag is neutral enough to compliment any fall or winter outfit. But good looks are one thing; organization and laptop protection are just as important as presentation. Let’s take a look at how the Element measures up…

The Element is meant to be carried as a briefcase; two 15″ rolled faux leather handles are on either side, and although a woman with thinner arms could carry it on her shoulder that is not the intention. The Element is a larger bag, measuring approximately 16.5″ wide x 13.5″ tall x 5″ deep, it is designed to carry up to a 15.4″ laptop. All zippers have 1.5″ chocolate brown faux leather pulls, so they will be easy to open and close even when wearing gloves. The faux leather on either side of the suede center panels is slightly pebbled with a natural cowhide grain, which keeps the faux leather from looking like what it is. An 11.5″ wide 7″ deep zippered pocket is on the front, and it makes for the perfect place to carry plane tickets, a passport, or any other slim items that may need to be immediately accessed.

The interior of this front pocket gives a glimpse of the colorful and complimentary satin striped lining which is used throughout the bag. There is a metal “Mobile Edge for Her” plaque on a ball chain attached to the handle, and when it is removed, the small metal plaque (which states the same) on the right side will be the only external branding. Metal D-rings are located on either side of the bag for attaching the included shoulder strap.

What I Like: Pretty fall and winter bag with bright colorful lining; capable organizational pockets; padded dedicated laptop compartment; plenty of room for paperwork and files; those who abhor over-branding will like the simple hanging metal tag; can be carried as a briefcase or as a shoulder bag; I am really amazed by the excellent price, as it could easily sell for much more!
What Needs Improvement: Nothing

Due to the overwhelming response we have had regarding our new ScanFast™ Collection of Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags, we are now taking Pre-Orders. Be the first to get your hands on the new TSA compliant laptop bags by Mobile Edge that will help you fly through airport security lines like never before.

The design team at Mobile Edge created three brilliant designs that meet all TSA requirements. The ScanFast™ Backpack, Briefcase and Messenger Bag have all been tested by TSA officials and provide the screener a clear unobstructed image of the laptop while inside the bag.

Here is part of the press release the TSA sent out last week regarding their plans to allow passengers to use the new Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags.

WASHINGTON – To help streamline the security process and better protect laptops, starting August 16 the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will allow passengers to leave their laptop computers in bags that meet new “checkpoint friendly” standards.

This public-private collaboration took just five months to go from concept to reality. TSA reached out to manufacturers in March to design bags that will produce a clear and unobstructed image of the laptop when undergoing X-ray screening. Designs meeting this objective will enable TSA to allow laptops to remain in bags for screening. More than 60 manufacturers responded and 40 submitted prototypes for testing.

Here are a few examples of what Checkpoint Friendly designs look like. The ScanFast™ Collection exceeds all TSA requirements.

I am a proud owner of the new 16GB iPhone 3G. Yes, I waited in a long line and actually had AT&T rake me over the coals for a new contract, and surprisingly enough I am still a satisfied customer.

The technology built into this phone is amazing. However, what I found out is the iPhone is just as vulnerable to being hacked into as other SmartPhones. Using the Bluetooth functionality, when pairing two Bluetooth devices you are vulnerable to having your phone hacked into with even knowing it.

Paris Hilton had her T-Mobile Side Kick hacked into exposing all of her contacts, photos, and any other personal data she had on the phone. This can happen to anyone including corporate executives.

Hackers can quickly steal all the information loaded on your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or PDA without even being detected. Even worse, a virus called Cabir distributes itself through Bluetooth connections and attacks the Symbian operating system used by several makers of mobile phones, including Nokia.

Editors from The New York Times, PC Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, WIRED Magazine and scores of other publications have all written stories regarding these threats. There are four “known” attack methods a predator can make on wireless phones and PDAs. Those methods are Bluesnarfing, the Backdoor attack, Bluebugging, and Bluejacking.

• Bluesnarf attack – hacker connects to the device without alerting the owner, and gains access to their phone book, images, their calendar entries, and any stored data.

• Backdoor attack - connects to the wireless device during the Bluetooth “pairing” stage allowing immediate access to file transfers and Internet access, all undetected by the device owner. The “pairing” stage is where Bluetooth devices authenticate each other.

• Bluebug attack - creates a serial profile connection to the device giving full access to then use the phone to initiate calls to premium rate numbers, send and read text messages, and even monitor phone conversations of the phone owner.

• Bluejacking - hacker sends anonymous text messages in public places abusing the Bluetooth “pairing” protocol. Bluejacking has become so popular there is even a website devoted to hackers boasting about how they hacked a new phone that day (www.bluejackq.com).

Fortunately, Mobile Edge identified this security threat and now provides built in technology to protect against such viruses and Bluetooth hackers alike. Exclusively offered by Mobile Edge, the Wireless Security Shield™ accessories pocket is Zinc lined and blocks out electromagnetic waves and radio frequencies, therefore shielding your wireless device from unwanted wireless access. This technology was originally developed by NASA and is now exclusively offered by Mobile Edge. The Wireless Security Shield™ is built into several new laptop carrying cases providing fundamental security needed in today’s fast paced, unsecured, identity theft environment.

At 11:42 a.m. (PST) there was a 5.4 magnitude earthquake that shook all of Southern California, including the Mobile Edge Corporate Office located in Anahiem. The epicenter was located in Chino Hills, Calif., approximately 10 miles from our office. Although the staff and products were jolted around a bit, everyone and all products are fine. All orders will ship on time without a hitch.

The shock waves felt more like waves traveling through the building rather than sharp jolts. From several news organizations, rolling shock waves actually cause less damage than the sharp snaps as felt in the Northridge Earthquake back in 1994.

The new ScanFast™ collection of laptop bags by Mobile Edge have created quite the buzz. Recently, John Biggs from the New York Times posted a review of the new collection in the Personal Technology Section.

Although competitors are working to release clam shell case designs, our design team actually put some time and effort into our new designs. This new ScanFast™ Collection consists of a backpack, a briefcase and a messenger bag, all designed to conveniently open for airport screeners and help speed travelers through the X-Ray screening process.

Here is a brief overview from the New York Times article:

With frustration mounting at airport security lines, something had to give.

The Transportation Security Administration has decided to give frequent travelers a break. When laptops are placed in certain cases, such as the ScanFast line from Mobile Edge, the agency does not require them to be removed for screening.

While many laptop-case manufacturers, including Targus and Skooba, are planning checkpoint-friendly cases, Mobile Edge will ship briefcases, backpacks and messenger bags next month (Sept).
The ScanFast bags separate the laptops from surrounding pockets, ensuring a clear picture in an X-ray machine.

Most bags still will have to be opened, but the Mobile Edge bags flip back to offer an unobstructed view of the laptop inside.

You are the first to see the new Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag designs by Mobile Edge. As previously mentioned in this blog, the Transportation Security Administration requested laptop bag manufacturers to create Checkpoint Friendly laptop bags. The TSA had clear guidelines for manufacturers to follow, ensuring airport security screeners could easily scan the laptop while it was still inside a laptop bag.

The design team quickly responded and came up with three new designs, a Backpack, Messenger Bag and Briefcase as designed to accommodate a laptop with a screen up to 15.4″.

Tested on airport X-Ray machines, this new collection of laptop cases are TSA compliant.
